The latest index showcases the top 10 podcast companies honored at the 24th Annual Webby Awards.

IN ITS SECOND YEAR, our annual Webby Industry Index series showcases the companies creating the highest caliber of work across their industries. Companies have been separated by their respective industries; The Webby Podcast Industry Index highlights the audio producers with the most Webby-recognized projects across all categories in the 24th Annual Webby Awards (2020). In addition, we’ve highlighted a few pieces of work created by each of the featured companies. Read the full Industry Index series to see this year’s best Media Companies, Production Companies, Game Creators, Brands, Agencies, and Tech Brands. 

HOW IT WORKS: We analyzed which industries were most represented during the 24th Annual Webby Awards, and ranked which companies produced the highest performing work. For the podcast industry index, we included the top 10 creators in audio storytelling to better reflect the proliferation of medium. Podcast entries are the fastest growing category in The Webby Awards, with a 55% increase in submissions in 2020.  *Companies are listed with the highest-performing podcast creators top to bottom.

Over the past four years the podcast industry has witnessed exponential growth. In 2020 alone, audio streaming services like Spotify saw a 200% increase in podcast consumption hours, according to its latest earnings report. Both PRX and Wondery made this year and last year’s index, with PRX moving from first to fifth. Non-media outlets, including Color Of Change, HBO, and Netflix received high honors, reflecting an uptick in podcast production by brands and organizations.
